Map of the Week-California Girls

This may be old news to some of you web surfers but I just discovered GraphJam. They have mapped and graphed many songs including "California Girls" by the Beach Boys.

Oh heavens, now I'll have THAT song stuck in my head for the next few days...

Incidentally, the salient characteristic of the Southern Girls is not that he is knocked out by them -- that is an individual subjective reaction -- but "the way they talk." And is there no data for eastern North Carolina, western Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, or Long Island? I think not.

Perhaps Mr. Wilson did not find the girls from Long Island, Rhode Island or Delaware to be hip. I think the white in North Carolina is meant to be the Pamlico Sound, where there are not many girls-only really good swimmers. Western Maryland is kind of a no-man's land so maybe it's a no-girls land too.

Western Maryland seemed like a verdant paradise when I was there last fall, but I was coming in from West Virginia so that probably explains it.

Well I didn't mean it like there's anything wrong with the place. It's just kind of empty.

So, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is a separate state now?

I think it's more of an oversight than GraphJam trying to make any kind of political statement. But I could be wrong. I bet the UP gets oversighted a lot - and maybe they'd like to be a separate state because of that.
